Fortress Fest is an annual destination festival that takes place in the heart of Fort Worth’s Arts District. Now in its 3rd year, Fortress Fest has become a well oiled machine and a staple for the month of April. Once again it featured bands from all over the world, but also shined a heavy spotlight on homegrown Texas bands, including the Sunday night headliner Leon Bridges. With sold out crowds both days, there’s no question it will make it return next year.

So around the middle of last year, my platonic bosom buddy, Shelby, approached me about being her travel partner for a once in a life time trip to Africa for a wedding and safari. My first reaction was "hell yeah", but then I started thinking about what I could possible be getting into. There were all sorts of political uprisings happening across the continent, and when I found out the main destination would be Nairobi, Kenya, that didn't put any of those thoughts at ease.
